Stress-free Night Time Routine

How are you doing? I’ve been so busy recently with what feels like endless assignments and deadlines! I feel so tired from working constantly – I need a break!

January. The time of assignments, deadlines and exams. Our days are crammed with copious amounts of revision and hard work – I feel like if I reference one more study my whole mind is going to burst. It’s such a stressful time period, trust me that you are not alone!

I’ve noticed that I have been falling asleep later than usual recently due to the stress of my assignments. When I close my eyes, all I seem to think about is the amount of work that needs to be done. So, I decided to introduce a few new steps into my night time routine (and I’ve found myself really benefitting from it) so I thought I would share it with you!

As you know, I absolutely love lavender. I use an essential oil (from Amazon) and I blot it on my pillow before I sleep. Simultaneously, I listen to sleep meditations by ‘The Honest Guys’ on Spotify (you can also get on YouTube) which are so relaxing. There’s one particular meditation I use called ‘Inner Peace,’ and it encourages the mind to wander to a happy place as you drift to sleep. With the scent of lavender in my room as I drift to sleep, it’s easy to imagine I’m immersed in a lavender field surrounded by tranquil waters. Closing my eyes, I leave the busy world of essays behind and escape to a private world of serenity. This method of relaxation before sleep is great because it allows you to create your own private, happy world of peace, allowing you to end your day with happy, relaxed thoughts.

As well as this, I also have got into reading books. I’ve found that even reading 10/15 minutes before bed really calms me down and makes me sleepy too, so I would definitely recommend reading a book just before bed.
