Building Self-Confidence


Hello everyone,

Happy Wednesday, I hope you all had a lovely weekend. A few weeks ago, I put another poll up on Instagram, in which the majority of votes were in favour for writing a post about building confidence.

Trust me when I say that confidence issues are not rare. Whether you feel unconfident about yourself, your career or other aspects of life, it can be very unmotivating and can prevent you from stepping out of your comfort zone. Everybody struggles with confidence at some point in their lives, and so it’s important to tackle these issues for improved wellbeing and to love yourself!

Do you tell yourself that you aren’t good enough? Do you compare yourself to other people? Do you put yourself down and criticise yourself? We are all guilty of it, but these harmful thinking patterns are very damaging for your confidence, mental health and self-esteem. They also often occur from habit but can be dealt with through a change of mindset.

  1. Practice self-love
    Make a list and write down what you love about yourself. What are your strengths? What are you proud of? What have you achieved? Do this whenever you’re feeling down or are lacking in confidence. Feeding your mind self-love is a great way to feel better about yourself. Remember that everybody is different – you are special and great in your own way.
  2. Affirmations
    Waking up and telling yourself positive affirmations is a great way to practice your mind into a healthy, positive place. Tell yourself you accept yourself. Tell yourself you are confident in your abilities. Remind yourself that you can do what you’re wanting to achieve.
  3. Step out of your comfort zone
    This can be very challenging, particularly during times when your confidence is low. However, stepping out of your comfort zone can really help with this. It’s all about getting comfortable with discomfort. As you practice is more and break boundaries, you will see yourself grow and you will learn to enjoy new challenges. Nobody is completely fearless of change – it can be scary! But being able to take baby steps and put yourself in unusual environments can do the world of good.

Obviously, a growth in self-confidence doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a gradual process which takes time. But being able to recognise that your self-confidence needs a boost, and willingly putting the effort in to help yourself is the first big step in achieving it.

Accepting The Highs and Lows


Hey guys, how have you been doing?

I think it’s safe to say that Spring is most definitely approaching – the air feels crisp and the evenings are lighter. Colourful dots have begun to blossom amongst the green canvas of grass, whilst white wispy clouds swirl through the light blue sky, delicate and fluffy. Each morning, I have been going on runs. It allows me to absorb the surroundings and appreciate the smaller things in life we sometimes take for granted. It also helps declutter my mind and sets the tone for the day, in which I return home with clearer thoughts and a calmer vision for the day ahead. It’s really helped me stay calm, particularly during this weird time. Today, I want to provide some reassurance about the current situation, and hopefully encourage you to accept how you are feeling, because I’m sure we are all experiencing up and down phases at the moment – which is totally okay.

Take this scenario. You wake up one morning, your mood is flat, you feel lazy, Netflix sounds too tempting to resist so you stay in bed and wear pyjamas all day.

Sound familiar? *Currently raising my hand*

This post is a little reminder that ‘off’ days are okay, and you are not alone if you are finding this time difficult. It can be challenging to stay positive all the time, particularly when we are repeatedly reminded of everything that is occurring around us. This is a time of change and uncertainty where we are restricted to the four walls of home, with many of us having to adjust to different living dynamics and new routines. Things at the moment are different, so of course not every day will be easy – it’s only natural to feel that way. It is okay if you wake up feeling down. It is okay to have a day off. It is okay to feel worried or uncertain. These are normal feelings most of us will experience given the current situation. Good days will come, and not-so-good days will go. Remember that this time will pass, we just have to take each day as it comes.

What can help lift your mood?

Obviously, different strategies work for different people, but I’ve been trying to implement a few different activities into my daily routine to keep myself entertained, and to help distract myself from the situation. Simple things such as phoning a friend or spending some quality time with family members are a great distraction. I’ve also been drawing, reading, baking, painting, running, meditating and doing home work-outs for some technology-free escapism. I’ve heard great things about Yoga too – I plan on starting that at some point too!

Although this has been different from my previous posts, I just thought a daily reminder would hopefully help and reassure you that the emotions you’re experiencing during this time are all completely natural and okay. We are in this together and this time will pass.

Ways to Keep Yourself Entertained At Home


Hey guys, how are you today?

I guess we can’t ignore the circumstances around us – it’s inevitably there. A sudden change in routine has occurred for many of us – remaining indoors, working from home and maybe feeling a little apprehensive and worried. For many of us, having to stay within the walls of our home can be a struggle, especially during the weekends when there’s no work to do. However, during an unfamiliar time like this, it is important to focus on the positives rather than the negatives!

Today, being the home-bird I am, I’m going to share a few things which you can do to fill your days spent at home. Staying proactive not only keeps you entertained, but is really good for your mental wellbeing (which is so important during a time like this!)

  1. Wardrobe clear out
    I’ve started to this already! Since being at home, I’ve had the chance to finally clear out my room and sort my clothes out – it’s so satisfying, and it helps pass the time (as well as being productive!) I feel so cleansed and organised from it!
  2. Morning workout/yoga
    As for the foreseeable future, most of our time will be spent indoors, so I would most definitely recommend doing some exercise! Recently, I’ve been implementing home workouts into my routine and this morning I went for a run. You could even try yoga – any form of exercise is so invigorating and healthy for both the mind and body. There are so many tutorials on YouTube so definitely try them out. Also, establishing a new routine is a really good way of adjusting to change and improving our wellbeing.  
  3. Read a book
    A cup of tea and a good book, curled under a soft blanket. Diving into a world of imagination, the story unfolds as you turn each page. Escaping reality by immersing yourself into a book is a really great way to stay entertained, and it also helps the mind unwind if you read before bed.
  4. Be creative
    Have you ever thought about creating something? Ever wanted to write a book, poem or practice your artwork? Release and challenge your creative energy into a project you’ve always thought about doing! This is great if you are wanting to spend time away from your phone and social media.
  5. Stay connected
    A FaceTime or phone call is only a click away! Stay connected by keeping in touch with family and friends!

Remember to stay positive, guys! Remember that we are in control of our attitudes and mindsets, and remember that positivity breeds positivity! I hope these suggestions have helped and I hope you have enjoyed reading!

What To Do When You Feel Overwhelmed


7:00am. You wake up to the familiar sound of your alarm and already you are thinking about your to-do list which flows like the closing credit of a film. Wouldn’t it be so much easier to stay wrapped up in the warm comforts of bed, shielding yourself from all the stress? Life can calve endless chores and tasks into our days, making us feel overwhelmed and tired. I can’t count the amount of times I have had to take a step back and force myself to relax to help manage my stress levels. We’ve all been there, and it can be very mentally draining. So, today, I want to share with you a few tips which can help cope with these feelings of overwhelmingness.

  1. Let go of what you can’t control

I once read a statistic which showed a high percent of what we overthink and worry about doesn’t even happen. What a waste of thoughts, right? You can’t control everything in life, so letting go of the things you’re not in control of is a great first step to reduce stressful thoughts. I sometimes ask myself ‘what is the point in worrying about what I can’t control?’ Overthinking these things is pointless, because thinking about them won’t change anything – what will be will be. Let life unfold the way it wants to, because things work out eventually.

  • Simplify

When things feel overwhelming, it’s so easy to fill your mind with tasks, making you feel like they all need to be done at once. This only causes more stress. When you wake up, simplify what needs to be done. Break what needs to be done into smaller steps – you can do this by writing a to do list and prioritising. Seeing things written on paper definitely reduces my stress levels as they no longer feel jumbled in my head!

  • Relax

Relaxing when you feel overwhelmed can make you feel slightly guilty, I understand. But it’s so important to listen to your mind and body if you feel like you’re crashing. Allow yourself to just relax for a little while – your wellbeing is much more important. Also, you are way more likely to be more productive after a rest because it gives yourself time to replenish, so it’s a win-win!

So, there are a few tips I thought I would share with you when things feel like they are getting too much. It happens to all of us and I believe being able to cope with stress and put our wellbeing first is so important. Let me know how you get on!

How to Lift Your Mood on a Down Day


Hello everyone!

How are you doing?! I just want to begin this post by saying thank you all so much for all of your support! Over 100 people are now subscribed to my blog, and I’m so pleased that you are enjoying my posts and that they are helping you guys.

So, returning back to the focus topic of today – lifting your mood when you’re feeling down. Have you ever woken up one morning feeling a little flat? Your mood is low and your mind is clouded by thoughts. Something is chipping away at the positivity in you, and you just can’t explain why. We’ve all been there, and that’s completely okay. But being able to tackle these down days and pick yourself back up is crucial for our well being, and it’s also a great way of practicing self care. So, I thought I would share with you a few simple strategies which can be used in order to uplift your mood during times you are feeling a little blue.

1) Spend time away from social media

It’s very tempting to fulfil your down days with time spent on social media, because it barely requires much effort and it’s an easy habit. However, this can have an adverse effect and actually make you feel worse. Spending time away from social media allows you to detach from the digital world and focus on the present. Spend your time by immersing yourself in other engaging activities which can be rewarding and refreshing, such as reading a book, writing or going for a walk.

2) Meditate

This is great for an instant mood change. It sounds cliché, but I can’t express enough how effective I find meditation! Taking just five minutes out of your day to close your eyes, let go of your worries and untie the knots in your mind can feel so invigorating. It allows you to focus on your breathing and forget about the external stresses which have been on your mind all day. If you don’t know where to start, simply type up ‘meditation for beginners’ on YouTube – there’s plenty of clips to use!

3) Arrange to meet a friend

On a down day, the thought of seeing or speaking to somebody can feel draining and can feel like a lot of effort. But the thought is always worse than the reality, and actually having company can boost your mood as well as successfully distracting yourself from your worries. My friends and I love to have a cup of tea and a good chat, especially when we are feeling down – it’s such a good form of therapy!

So, those are a few tips I thought I would share with you which help me when I’m having a down day. It’s so normal to experience these kinds of days, but being able to pick yourself up when you’re feeling down so important and is also a great habit to fall into.

How to Accept You For You


Hello everyone, how are you doing this evening?
Yesterday was my first day back at uni, so I’ve been consumed with busy schedules and adjusting back to the routine after the Christmas break. Today, dark clouds covered the sky, resembling a grey blanket and reflecting the cold air which felt like frosty icicles on my skin. It was so nice to return home and light the candles with a comforting hot water bottle, sheltered from the wintery climate outside.

Recently, I have been thinking about the importance of self-acceptance, and how crucial it can be for our mental health. It’s sometimes easy to be swept away by the negative voice in our heads which criticize us for our mistakes and focus unnecessarily on our weaknesses. Being able to accept ourselves for who we are not only injects a syrup of happiness into our lives, but also helps us flourish as individuals and increases our self-esteem.

In order to help achieve self-acceptance, being aware of your strengths and weaknesses is key. Remember that no individual is the same, we are all different – unique and special in our own ways. Our strengths and weaknesses shape who we are; our strengths help us shine and our weaknesses are aspects of ourselves which we can improve on. Adoring our strengths and accepting our imperfections creates a magical path, which creates a journey towards self-acceptance – it’s okay not to be perfect! Being perfect is impossible – if we were all perfect, we wouldn’t be unique.

Also, remember to focus on your accomplishments. It’s a great way to accept you for you. Did you complete an assignment today? Or have you ticked off a few things on your to-do list? Did you make someone smile today? Award yourself for the accomplishments you have achieved – they make you a great person and encourage a positive mindset.

I have also found that being able to let go of negative mistakes from the past is essential for accepting yourself for who you are. The past is in the past and it can’t be changed. Mentally fighting your previous mistakes when they are glued in the past only worsens how we feel. It’s done, it’s in the past and you are now in the present. So, try to live in the present, reward yourself for your accomplishments and try to focus on the things you love about yourself.

So, there’s just a little reminder that you are amazing the way you are. Everybody has strengths as well as weaknesses and being able to accept these imperfections is important in order to achieve self-acceptance.

How To Motivate Yourself on an ‘Off’ Day


Hey everyone, how are you all!?

I went for a walk yesterday. It was so frosty outside! There was ice glazed all over the ground, so wearing a woolly hat was a must! Right now, I am curled up in bed, drinking a soothing peppermint tea to wind down after the busy welcoming of Monday.

Today, I want to talk about ways to motivate yourself on an ‘off’ day. We all have off days, just like we have good days, and it’s totally normal. When these ‘off’ days occur, it can be difficult to even think about the ‘to-do list’ of the day, and the sound of ‘Netflix in bed’ sounds so much more appealing! However, learning to tackle these psychological obstructions is important, as it will feel a lot more rewarding at the end of the day if you have spent it being productive!

Firstly, remind yourself that the day is just one ‘off’ day, and tomorrow will be better. Being productive now will make tomorrow feel easier – you can do this!

Begin your day with writing a ‘to-do’ list and start with the easier, less effortful tasks. This will gently encourage you to ease into the routine of the day and, simultaneously, you will be productively ticking tasks off the list!

Reward yourself with breaks. Reward yourself for being proactive and completing the tasks you initially struggled to begin with. This is a great way to make yourself proud for what you achieved, which will boost your mood.

Also, remember listen to yourself. If you really need a break, then have one. Take things slow, and whenever you feel like you need to rest, then do it. Even if it is little and often, it’s so important to listen to the body and mind and look after ourselves with great care and love.

Appreciating the Small Things in Life


Hey lovely people, how is your day/evening going?

Before I begin this post, I just wanted to quickly say a huge thank you for all your support! I now have 70 of you who are subscribed to my blog, and although that may not seem a lot in comparison to others, I’m still so overwhelmed that so many of you are enjoying my posts – it means so much to me and I’m so happy I can help!

Currently feeling very zen right now. I’m curled up in bed, wearing some fluffy socks and drinking peppermint tea. I don’t know about you, but I love herbal teas – especially of an evening. It’s currently raining here; the water droplets are tapping on the ground outside ever so gently. I’ve lit a few candles which are emitting a fiery orange glow, making me feel super cosy!

Today I want to talk about appreciating the little things in life. My friend sent me a quote and it was a great reminder, so I thought I’d share it with you:

“Today, I will pay attention to the small things that bring me joy.”

I feel like it’s so important to remember this. It’s so easy to become wrapped up and consumed with the stress of our day to day lives that we focus on the negatives and we take the small things in life for granted. Sometimes in life, it’s required for us to take a step back, breathe and remind ourselves of the smaller things in life that make us happy. Whether it’s friends, family, your partner, a hobby or even if it’s as simple as a book you’re currently reading. In times of stress or difficulty, remember the simple, small things in life which we may often forget about!

So, I just thought I’d share that quote with you as it was a nice reminder for me and so I thought it would be a nice reminder for you too!

Tips on Healthy Eating (and brownies!)


Hello everyone, happy Tuesday!

I am currently sat by my desk, surrounded by the twinkling fairy lights in my room. Outside, a grey blanket of clouds has threatened rain all day, so it’s been a cosy stay-in day for me finishing some Uni work. What have you been up to?

So far this year, I have aimed to eat more healthily. I haven’t eaten meat, I’m drinking more water and I’m slowly introducing plant-based meals and ingredients into my diet. It’s great so far – I’m already feeling the health benefits from this diet change and it’s only been a week! Have any of you decided to eat more healthy this year, or are you aiming to at any point?

I really fancied a sweet treat today, so I decided to take inspiration from ‘Deliciously Ella’ and I followed her brownie recipe. From the coconut sugar to the buckwheat flour, all the ingredients were plant-based. I was really unsure what the outcome would be like, but I was pleasantly surprised. They didn’t only look good, but they tasted delicious too, with a soft, gooey centre. Although you can tell a slight difference between these and ‘normal’ brownies, they still taste good and they’re a much healthier option!

The ingredients used were: coconut sugar, buckwheat flour, bicarbonate of soda, coconut oil, chia seeds, almond milk and some melted dark chocolate to drizzle on top! It can be quite confusing when working with unfamiliar ingredients, which is why I find baking from a recipe book so much easier!

There is so much evidence out there regarding the profound benefits of a good diet. It’s proven to improve mental health, physical health, energy levels, memory…the list is endless. It can be difficult at first to suddenly switch diets, so I find slowly introducing new meals/ingredients/healthier alternatives is the best way in order to switch diets without feeling too put off or overwhelmed!  

My favourite recipe books so far are ‘Eat Smart’ and ‘Deliciously Ella’s’ range. They include original, healthy recipe’s which are easy to make and super tasty too! So, if you’re looking for some healthy, animal-free recipe inspiration, have a look at those and see what you think!

Remember to Self-Love


Hey everyone, I hope you’re all having a great day!

Before you read this post, grab yourself a hot drink, put some fluffy socks on and use this reading time to escape from the real world. You deserve a night’s rest before Monday greets us tomorrow morning! As we launch into January, the nights continue to precede to darkness during early hours of the day, as we patiently wait for Spring to arrive.

Today I want to talk about self-love. It’s something a lot of us struggle with because the voice in our heads can be so critical towards ourselves, and not so kind. What’s important here is remembering to treat yourself as your own best friend. You wouldn’t be critical of your best friend, so why should you be critical of yourself?

Start your day off with positive thoughts. Tell yourself something positive. When you wake up tomorrow morning, tell yourself that you will be productive today. Tell yourself you are loved. Tell yourself that today will be a good day. Filling your head with good thoughts not only creates an optimistic mindset, but also fills the beginning of a new day with positivity. Thinking about happy thoughts and setting positive affirmations in the morning creates a blanket of positivity which you can wear throughout the day!

Remember to be kind to yourself. A key route to self-love is accepting who you are as a person. Don’t put yourself down for any mistakes you make because life is a learning process – we all make mistakes. We are all learning on this journey together – remember that we are all different and that makes us unique and individual.

Accept yourself – accept both the talents and the faults you have because nobody is perfect! Focus on the positive aspects of yourself and remember that you are beautiful inside and out. Reminding yourself of the things you like about yourself is another great way to love yourself. We all have positive qualities, and although it’s hard, don’t let a few negative thoughts override the positives ones.
