Happy March! How is it March already?! January gloomily dragged, yet I’ve seemed to have blinked and we’ve skipped a month! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling pretty stressed lately – I think it’s this time of year. However, soon the light evenings and blue skies will emerge, and Spring will soon greet us with a burst of joy.
When we are stressed, it can be difficult to practice self-care habits as we get so wrapped up in the busy schedules of every day life. Today, I’ve decided to share with you a few simple, doable strategies which can be easily implemented into your daily routine in order to help you ‘switch off’ from stress and indulge in relaxation:
1) Listen to a podcast
I usually do this when I’m walking to or from uni. It’s a great way to switch off from the stresses of life and to listen to a topic of interest. I really recommend listening to ‘Deliciously Ella’s’ podcasts – they’re so uplifting, inspiring and also really relatable! You can find them on Spotify. She covers a whole range of topics, from accepting failure to healthy eating. Plus, it’s super easy to squeeze this into your routine, as you can simply listen to these podcasts on route to places, or even when you’re cooking or getting ready for bed. I couldn’t recommend them enough!
2) Colouring book
In a world where we are dominated by social media and stress, escaping the online world and engaging in an activity like colouring in can be so refreshing. I have a colouring book and it’s so calming to unleash the colour and glide the pencils across the paper, filling in each shape and design with care. It’s such a pleasurable way to ‘switch off’ and ease the mind, and it’s a great way to spend time away from social media. This is really relaxing to do before bedtime, especially if you don’t fancy reading!
3) Write in a journal
I’ve owned a journal since I was about 10 and I use it religiously. Being able to write your thoughts and feelings down after a stressful day is so cathartic and I’d recommend it to anybody. It’s also a really therapeutic way to write down all the things you are grateful for in life. Being able to take a minute to focus on what you are grateful for can help relieve stress, as it puts things into perspective. With regards to fitting this into my routine, I often take ten or fifteen minutes before I sleep to write. This is also a great way to wind down after a busy day because you can switch off your phone (which is one of the biggest sleep disrupters!)
Overall, being able to practice self-care to relieve feelings of stress is so important for our wellbeing. The stress of life can often take a toll on us, dragging us down and causing us to neglect ourselves. I love being able to share with you these things which can make all the difference, so I really hope they help and I hope they work for you.
